phone cover repaint 1

Stephen brought us a challenge to repaint and rejuvenate his old phone cover. We love taking on a quirky project, so challenge accepted!! We cleaned the cover-up and gave it a fantastic metallic red finish, which has completely transformed the phone case. We were really pleased with the outcome, and Stephen was chuffed with the results!

Tools Required For This Project:

  • Degreaser
  • Scotch Brite
  • Masking Tape and Masking Paper
  • Silver High Build Primer
  • 2K Red Diamond Coat Gloss Lacquer

Prep:

As the phone cover will collect a lot of dirt, grease and chemical residue, it’s imperative you clean it thoroughly before starting your project. You can achieve this by using a cleaning agent and then a degreasing agent. Once you have finished, you then need to leave it to dry thoroughly.

When the case is dry, you need to mask up the parts you do not wish to paint with masking paper and tape. Key the surface with some scotch brite or fine sandpaper. This will give the substrate an abrasive edge for the paint to stick to.

Paint:

This was an easy little project to paint. We made a custom silver high build primer for the ground coat. We applied a single thick coat and then left it to cure for 30 minutes. We then applied a 2K red gloss lacquer to seal the paint and provide a fantastic depth to the silver base coat, and left it to cure overnight. The red lacquer is see-through, so you can see the light reflect off the metallic silver base coat.

Thanks for the challenge Stephen, glad you liked the finished piece, and we look forward to the next one.
